- A monthly newsletter containing lists of educational programs, Chapter recitals, and other concerts through the Boston area, along with news and informative articles on all aspects of the local organ community.

- Services of the Organ Advisory Committee, which assists churches and synagogues in the process of purchasing new organs or improving existing ones.

- An extensive library of organ music and related materials at Boston University.

Regular, Special, and Student members also receive a one-year subscription of The American Organist. Upon joining, all new members receive a copy of the yearbook, which includes a listing of all Chapter members. The yearbook also provides an opportunity for artists to advertise.

Making the newsletter YOUR newsletter!

We want to make this newsletter your newsletter, with items of particular interest about and for our members and newsletter subscribers.

Listed below are several ways in which you can help. We can't guarantee that all items will make it into the newsletter (most likely they will), but we certainly want to hear from you. (As usual, we reserve the right to judiciously edit any submissions.) All submissions - ads, concert listings, articles - are due, in writing, on the first of the month preceding the month of the issue in which you want them to appear. If your event occurs early in a month, submit the listing TWO months ahead of time. For more information, to reserve ad space, to volunteer as a writer, or to submit an item, contact the editor:

Ad space for sale

The back page of each newsletter is available at $85 per month for an 4-1/2 x 7-1/2 ad, $25 for 3-3/4 x 4-1/2 (camera-ready copy). This is a great way to announce concerts, conferences, workshops, recordings, and publications that are of interest not only to us organists and choir directors, but also to our choir singers, church members - and to chapter subscribers. To reserve space for a particular month, call the editor as soon as possible - some months are very popular and get snatched up quickly! The revenue from these ads helps pay the costs of producing and mailing the newsletter.

Professional layout and typography services - available for an additional $20-$50 - can make your ad more attractive. Contact Sheila Bosworth, 978-263-9926.

Classified Ads

These are very short ads, run on a space-available basis, to sell something (organ-related!) or looking for something. Classifieds are free for chapter members; $10 per month for non-members.

Concert Calendar Listings

Your submissions are sought and appreciated. You can, however, make life much easier for the editor and your potential audience by submitting your listings - in writing (no phone calls) - in the following format (listings may be edited according to space needs for the newsletter):

* Day, Date,Time
* Brief description (event, performers, concert title, composers, major work, make of organ, etc.)
* Name of church or hall, street address or location, city, state.
* Indicate whether free, donation or offering, or admission prices.
* Include a phone number for more information--very important!
* Indicate if building is handicapped accessible.

Send in the news

How about volunteering to write an article or review about chapter events and concerts (this is especially encouraged!)? Want to review a recording, piece of music, concert, or book? Got a book about to be published? Releasing a recording? Completing or undertaking a unique project related to the organ or music in the church? Celebrating a significant anniversary at your church? Commissioning new music? Want to expound on your thoughts about our profession in an editorial? Write a letter? Contact, or submit your article, to the newsletter editor. Here are some guidelines for writing the article:

* Be concise.
* Be detailed.
* Fully identify yourself and any other persons or organizations mentioned in your item. If the article is about a recording or publication, include detailed information about the publisher, catalog numbers, and where available.
* Include your address and phone number, in case the editor needs to contact you.
